Saturday 23rd October saw the autumn local competition at ward road gym. The competition was well attended and nearly all grades were represented. The juniors had a hard fought competition which saw Scott winning in the patterns. His brother Callum followed suit by winning gold in the Sparring. The power test (using children’s breaker boards) saw a tight competition between Josh, Callum and Katie (as a yellow tag competing in her first competition). After 6 rounds on on to the third technique Josh succeeded with a turning kick to win the gold.
Then came the adult divisions; In the yellow belt and below the pattern competition was won by Fred. With Aberdeen’s representative Stuart coming a very close second. The first round of the sparring saw a repeat of these competitors with the decision going the other way with Stuart the winner who subsequently went on to win in the final. Congratulations also go to Jen who was attending her first competition and had two matches against opponents both more experienced in sparring but also bigger in stature.
The senior grade division saw stiff competition in both the pattens and the sparring, with a large number of split decisions from the judges. The patten competition was won by Joel who kept his nerve in the final against Ross when they were given Do-San as his second pattern. The sparring saw good competition from all taking part and an excellent display of sportsmanship. It came down to Joel and Helen in the final which was conducted over 2 rounds. In the end Joel managed to prevail and win his second gold of the day.
The competition ended with the power test which saw all adult grades compete together. In this there was one clear winner, so Joel managed a clean sweep at this one.
Congratulations to all those who took part in what was a great competition to judge and be a part off.
